ism (n.), -ism (suffix)
 
 
An ism is an ideology, a theory whose name ends in -ism: communism, fascism, socialism, vegetarianism, liberalism, libertarianism, conservatism. These are all Standard, as is the word ism itself. Compare OLOGY.  1
