Frankenstein
was the name of the inventor of the monster, not the monster itself, but semantic change has caused a Frankenstein today to be Standard English for any sort of man-made monster, literal or figurative. In creating that committee, we created a Frankenstein that will eventually destroy the organization. Purists still insist on a Frankenstein(s) monster in such uses.
