Franglais

is a French blend of Français and Anglais, coined by a Frenchman irritated at the constant intrusion of English words and meanings into the French vocabulary (weekend, cowboy, hamburger, whisky, to name just a few). The French Academy does what it can, but its strictures never do more than slow the influx a bit. There are too many English and American books, songs, films, products, and tourists circulating in France for the result to be other than what it is.  1
