envious, enviable (adjs.)

Envious means “feeling or showing envy,” as in He was rich and handsome, but we tried not to be envious, while enviable means “worthy or desirable enough to be envied or to cause envy,” as in She had an enviable ease of manner. Envious sometimes combines with the preposition of, as in We were all envious of her new car.  1
