submit (v.)

Submit doubles the t for its present participle (submitting) and its past tense and past participle (submitted) forms (see CONSONANTS [2]). Submit to is usually followed by a gerund (She will submit to having her hair cut), but occasionally an infinitive will serve, even though many conservatives don’t like it (He won’t submit to go to the dentist). Edited English prefers the gerund.  1
