incursion (n.)
 
 
has the generalized meaning of “an overrunning, an intrusion,” as in Every morning there was a heavy incursion of fog from the sea, and the specialized meaning of “an invasion,” as in There were frequent incursions of rebel troops into the district. Incursion is a literary, formal-sounding word with pejorative overtones.  1
