incursion (n.)
has the generalized meaning of an overrunning, an intrusion, as in Every morning there was a heavy incursion of fog from the sea, and the specialized meaning of an invasion, as in There were frequent incursions of rebel troops into the district. Incursion is a literary, formal-sounding word with pejorative overtones.
