homo (n.)
 
 
The Standard sense is that of the Latin word itself, the genus name for “man” (plural homines), and most familiar in combinations such as homo sapiens. Homo is also a slang term, a clipped version of homosexual; it is always a derogatory or contemptuous word.  1
