submariner (n.)

There are three Standard pronunciations: suhb-muh-REEN-uhr, SUHB-muh-reen-uhr, and suhb-MER-i-nuhr, roughly in that order of frequency. The last pronunciation may have arisen because some of the general public has apparently been influenced by the pronunciation of mariners (MER-in-uhrz)—which these sailors are, after all—but the sailors themselves are said to prefer to call attention to the boat, so they tack the agentive -er onto the regular pronunciation of the name of the vessel: suhb-muh-REEN-uhr.  1
