INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE

Inclusive language is vocabulary and a set of pronouns so chosen as to minimize or eliminate the use of words that mean or seem to mean one sex to the exclusion of the other: flight [or cabin] attendant is inclusive language; steward and stewardess are exclusive language. Most publishers now urge their authors to avoid any taint of sexist language (or exclusive language) and to use inclusive language wherever possible instead. But consult common sense as well, lest you sacrifice your prose to your good intentions. See also EPICENE PRONOUNS.  1
