Filippo Buonarroti, a student and later a radical leader, moved to Corsica and started the Giornale patriottico di Corsica (Patriotic Journal of Corsica).
A series of conferences in Italy to write the constitution of a Cispadane (south of the Po) Republic. The Cispadane Republic was merged into the Cisalpine Republic (1797: Milan, Modena, Ferrara, Bologna, Romagna).
Neapolitan Republic formed. It lasted just five months. Austrian and Russian troops entered Italy and the republics met with resistance throughout the countryside.
