The U.S. announced plans to post diplomats in Vietnam to assist U.S. families resident there.	2

Measures were taken by the Clinton administration to further relax the U.S. embargo. Many called to end it altogether. By year's end, the embargo was all but dissolved, and the pace of economic change in Vietnam was accelerating.	3
