Prime Minister Maurice Bishop of Grenada was overthrown and assassinated (Oct. 19) in a coup led by Bernard Coard, of his own party.  2
 
Oct. 25
 
Claiming that U.S. medical students there were in danger, American forces invaded Grenada, overthrowing the government. The Reagan administration was alarmed at the close relations between Cuba and Grenada.  3
