A parliamentary joint committee, reviewing the material of the Simon Commission and of the round-table conferences, worked out a draft constitution.	1

Gradual suspension of the civil disobedience movement. Gandhi now devoted all his efforts to raising the status of the depressed classes, whose members he renamed Harijans (“children of God”).	2

1934, Oct. 21

All-India Congress Socialist Party founded.	3

Oct. 24

To free the hands of its younger leaders, Gandhi resigned from the congress, but remained the supreme arbiter of its policies.	4
