QUOTATION:Let’s assume you guys know I got this job because of my competency and proven successes with this company and you’re just as happy to have me here as I am to be here, and I won’t ever think anything other than that.
ATTRIBUTION:Deborah S. Kent (b. 1953), African American assembly plant manager. As quoted in the New York Times, sect. 3 p. 7 (February 5, 1995).

The third of nine children raised by Leodas and Earline Stewart, a St. Louis laborer and housewife, Kent became the first woman ever to head a vehicle assembly plant for the Ford Motor Company. Shortly after her arrival, she met with the area managers and said this.
