( ´r k l p s v r s´s m ) (KEY) , 190575, Brazilian writer. Veríssimo lectured and taught in the United States. He wrote (in English) Brazilian Literature (1945). His best-known novel is Caminhos cruzados (1935; tr. Crossroads, 1943). His other works include two studies of North American culture and Mexico (1957, tr. 1960). He was director (195356) of the Dept. of Cultural Affairs of the Pan-American Union. Veríssimos fiction has been published as Ficção completa (196667). |
