Touba
 
 
(t´bä) (KEY) , town (1988 pop. 23,751), Diourbel prov., W Senegal. The terminus of a branch line from main Dakar-Niger RR, it is located in peanut-growing region. Touba is the religious center of the Mourides, an African Islamic Sufi brotherhood founded (1887) by Sheik Amadou Bamba Mbacke, and is the site of an annual pilgrimage commemorating his exile. The Mourides’ great mosque dominates the town.
