Tittoni, Tommaso
(tm-mä´z tt-tô´n) (KEY) , 18551931, Italian statesman. As minister of foreign affairs (19035, 19069), he sought closer ties with the Western powers, while remaining within the framework of the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary. He also tried to improve the position of Italy in the Balkans. He was ambassador to France (191016), foreign minister (191920), and president of the senate (192029). A Fascist sympathizer, he was named by Mussolini president of the Italian Academy (192930). He wrote several books on political economy.
