Stadion, Johann Philipp, Graf von
 
 
(y´hän f´lp gräf fn shtä´dôn) (KEY) , 1763–1824, Austrian politician. A diplomat, he was made (1805) foreign minister and campaigned for a German uprising under Austrian leadership against Napoleon. His program was acclaimed by German patriots, but after the Austrian defeats of 1809 he was replaced by Metternich. Stadion continued to act as an adviser and from 1816 served as finance minister.
