In his cycle of spiritual songs Lieden Opt Vader Ons (modern ed. 1957), he was among the first to successfully adapt the iambic rhythms of French Renaissance verse and melody to Dutch usage. He propounded the iambic principle in Kort Begrijp des Redekavelings (1585).
