(b ´l sh k) (KEY) , 1877–1967, American pediatrician, b. Hungary, M.D. Karl Franz Univ., Graz, 1900. After having taught at the Univ. of Vienna (1902–23), he came to the United States. From 1923 he was a pediatrician at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York. In 1929 he became a naturalized American citizen. He devised (1910–11) the Schick test to determine susceptibility to diphtheria.
