(säs-s t´tä) (KEY) , c.14001450, Italian painter of the Sienese school, whose original name was Stefano di Giovanni. A popular artist, he painted many large altarpieces, scenes from the life of St. Anthony (Yale Univ.; Philip Lehman Coll., New York City; National Gall. of Art, Washington, D.C.), and Journey of the Magi (Metropolitan Mus.), although the authenticity of some of the works attributed to him is dubious. |
