Namsos
 
 
(näm´ss) (KEY) , town (1995 pop. 12,300), Nord-Trøndelag co., W Norway, a port at the mouth of the Namsen River on the Namsenfjord. In World War II, Namsos was the scene (1940) of heavy fighting between the British and the Germans. Its industries include lumbering, fishing, textiles, canning, and mining copper.
