Mustafa II

1664–1703, Ottoman sultan (1695–1703), nephew and successor of Ahmed II. The grand vizier (chief executive officer) of the Ottoman Empire (Turkey), Husayn Köprülü, exercised the actual rule. The Turkish defeat (1697) at Senta by Prince Eugene of Savoy led to negotiations in 1699 (see Karlowitz, Treaty of) that marked the end of the Turkish military threat to Europe. Mustafa II was succeeded by his brother, Ahmed III.
