(mä´r bôr) (KEY) , Ger. Marburg, city (1991 pop. 103,961), in Slovenia, on the Drava River. It is a heavy industrial center with chemical, engineering, and electrical industries. Known as early as the 12th cent., it was an important city of Styria until its transfer (1919) to Yugoslavia and incorporation into the constituent republic of Slovenia. The city has a 12th-century Gothic cathedral, a 15th-century castle, and a fine Renaissance town hall. |
