(gr g ´r l´pth brä´v) (KEY) , 1923–85, Spanish politician. He entered government service in 1959, serving as director-general of foreign trade to Dec., 1960, director-general of the Spanish Institute of Foreign Currency (1960–62), and minister of industry (1962–69). A member of Opus Dei and one of the nonpolitical technocrats who contributed to the Spanish economic miracle of the 1960s, he became minister of foreign affairs in 1969. López Bravo was relieved of that post in June, 1973, because of right-wing opposition to his quest for closer relations with Communist countries, the United States, and Western Europe. |
