(gw´ns) (KEY) , city (1994 est. pop. 46,000), Ciudad de la Habana prov., W Cuba. It is located in one of the island’s most heavily farmed areas. Güines was founded in 1737 as the commercial and financial center of the rich surrounding farm region.
