(gärd ´n ) (KEY) , city (1990 pop. 49,847), Los Angeles co., SW Calif., an industrial suburb of Los Angeles; inc. 1930. Often called Freeway City because of its proximity to several major roads, Gardena manufactures aircraft components, electronic and communications equipment, machinery, tools, chemicals, metal items, clothing, and food products. It is also noted for its plant nurseries. The city has a sizable Japanese-American community, and an annual Japanese cultural exhibit is held there. El Camino College is in Gardena. |
