Flygare-Carlén, Emilie
(flü´gär´´-kärln´) (KEY) , 180792, Swedish novelist. In The Rose of Thistle Island (1842, tr. 1844) and A Merchants House on the Skerry (186061), she wrote of sea life on the Bohuslan skerries where she spent her childhood. Her 26 multivolume novels were written with the aid of a large staff of relatives and friends and throughout Europe were the most popular Swedish works of the 19th cent.
