Milman, Henry Hart
 
 
1791–1868, English clergyman, poet, and historian, dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, from 1849. He was the author of several dramatic poems as well as some important historical works. His History of the Jews (1830) was the first work of English theology to subject the Bible to historical criticism. Other works include History of Christianity under the Empire (1840) and his chief work, History of Latin Christianity (6 vol., 1854–55).   1
