(k k´r l) (KEY) , 18341915, Confederate general and U.S. senator, b. Johnson co., Mo. Enlisting as a private with Confederate forces in the Civil War, he became a brigadier general in 1863. Cockrells Brigade was a famous unit in the Western fighting.
