| town (1991 pop. 39,618), Essex, E central England. It is a seaside resort situated on high cliffs. The Norman Church of St. John was restored there in 1865. Clacton-on-Sea is the area from which Clactonian tools, early flake instruments dating back to the early Interglacial stage, get their name. |
