(ch s´k b ´dy yôv ts ) (KEY) , Ger. Budweis, city (1991 pop. 97,243), Czech Republic, in Bohemia, on the Vltava (Moldau) River. An important road and rail hub and river port, eské Bud jovice is famous for its breweries. Other industries produce enamelware, furniture, food products, and pencils. The city was founded in the 13th cent. It is noted for its inner town, with an arcaded square, and for a nearby castle. |
