(lyksän´dr mkhvch bt´lyrôf) (KEY) , 1825–86, Russian chemist. As professor at the Univ. of Kazan he founded the first school of Russian chemists and directed research designed to confirm the classical theory of chemical structure, which he helped to create. His later work included investigations of polymerization reactions and applications of the theory of chemical structure to organic chemistry.
