Bromley
 
 
(brm´l) (KEY) , outer borough (1991 pop. 281,700) of Greater London, SE England. It is the largest of the 32 Greater London boroughs with an area of 59 sq mi (153 sq km). Bromley is mainly residential. The Crystal Palace, site of the 1851 Great Exhibition, was within the borough until fire destroyed it in 1936. The statesman William Pitt the younger and H. G. Wells, the writer, were born in Bromley.
