Bracken, John
 
1883–1969, Canadian political leader, b. Ontario. A noted agricultural expert, he was premier of Manitoba for 20 years (1922–42). In 1942 he was chosen to lead Canada’s Conservative party, which he renamed Progressive Conservative. Elected in 1945 to the Canadian House of Commons, he served as leader of the opposition until 1948, when he resigned.
