ADJECTIVE:1. Causing sharp, often prolonged discomfort: brutal, hard, harsh, rough, severe. See COMFORT. 2. Difficult to accept: distasteful, indigestible, painful, unpalatable. See LIKE. 3. Having a noticeably sharp pungent taste or smell: acerbic, acrid, harsh, sour. See TASTE. 4. Bitingly hostile: acrimonious, embittered, hard, rancorous, resentful, virulent. See ATTITUDE, LOVE.
