NOUN:1. A component of government that performs a given function: agency, arm, branch, department, organ, wing. See PART. 2. A part of a family, tribe, or other group, or of such a group's language, that is believed to stem from a common ancestor: branch, offshoot, subdivision. See PART. 3. The act of distributing or the condition of being distributed: admeasurement, allocation, assignment, apportionment, dispensation, distribution. See COLLECT. 4. One of the parts into which something is divided: member, part, piece, portion, section, segment, subdivision. See PART. 5. The act or an instance of separating one thing from another: detachment, disjunction, disjuncture, disseverance, disseverment, disunion, divorce, divorcement, parting, partition, separation, severance, split. See ASSEMBLE, PART. 6. The condition of being divided, as in opinion: disunion, disunity, divergence, divergency, schism. See ASSEMBLE. 7. A local unit of a business or an auxiliary controlled by such a business: affiliate, branch, subsidiary. See PART.
