Jezebel, from Hebrew îzebel,* where is the prince?, from zebel, akin to zbûl, Zebul, a name meaning “prince” (î, where; see yy); b. Beelzebub, from Hebrew ba^cal zbûb, lord (of the) fly, pejorative alteration of ba^cal zbûl, lord prince, name of a Philistine god (see b^cl and bb).
