DEFINITION:Tear. Oldest form *daru-, becoming *dakru- in centum languages. 1a. tear2, from Old English tar, tehher, tear; b. train oil, from Middle Dutch trane, tear, drop. Both a and b from Germanic *tahr-, *tagr-. 2. Suffixed form *dakru-m-. lachrymal, from Latin lacrima (Archaic Latin dacruma), tear. (Pokorny daru- 179.)
