NOUN: Any of several usually white herons of the genera Bubulcus, Casmerodius, Egretta, and related genera, characteristically having long, showy, drooping plumes during the breeding season.
ETYMOLOGY:Middle English, from Old French aigrette, from Old Provençal aigreta, from aigron, heron, of Germanic origin.
