ETYMOLOGY:French amphibologie, from Late Latin amphibologia : Latin amphibo(lia), ambiguity (from Greek amphiboli, from amphibolos, doubtful; see amphibole) + Latin -logia, -logy (added on the model of such words as tautologia, tautology).
