Russo-Japanese War


A war fought in 1904–1905 between Russia and Japan over rival territorial claims. In winning the war, Japan emerged as a world power.	1
‡ President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States was largely responsible for bringing the two sides together and working out a treaty. For his efforts, Roosevelt won the Nobel Prize for peace.	2
