Goebbels, Joseph
(YOH-zuhf GEU-buhls, GEU-buhlz) A German political leader of the twentieth century. Goebbels was propaganda minister of the Nazi government and a close confidant of the leader, Adolf Hitler. Goebbelss policy was based on the notion that a lie, repeated often and forcibly, gains the legitimacy of truth. When the defeat of Germany seemed inevitable, he killed himself and his family.
